A few of my favourite garden and wildlife things

Helpful products for the gardener

We gardeners are always looking for helpful tips and ideas on how to make our daily tasks easier, as well as products to solve problems and beautify areas of our landscape.

Here are a few of my favourite products, most of which I use or have used in my own garden.

I have put together a small library of interesting and helpful books. Many of the books here have in-depth review posts on my website.

There are also high-quality garden tools, birdhouses, feeders and birdbaths that have worked for me over the years or that I think readers might benefit from using.

If you have read many of my posts, you will have noticed that I have a slight crush on using copper in the garden. Nothing ages with that beautiful patina in the garden quite like a high quality copper product. With that in mind, let me suggest a few lovely little garden accents that not only look good but age with that lovely patina you can only get with copper.

This lovely little copper bird bath from Gardener’s Supply is the perfect addition to any garden.

The copper hummingbird feeder (above) is just one example of the outstanding garden products available at Gardener’s Supply Company of Maine.

If you have not yet visited their website, do yourself a favour and take a few minutes to check it out.

A hanging copper birdbath like the one above from Gardener’s Supply Company is a great choice if you have a large tree near where you like to sit.

We have a hanging birdbath in a tree beside our patio, but it doesn’t compare with this hanging copper birdbath from Gardener’s supply. A beautiful gift for a birding friend or maybe for yourself. The antibacterial qualities that copper brings to a birdbath makes them even more valued.

If you are luck enough to have a deck where you spend most of your time, this copper birdbath that hooks directly to your deck (also from Gardener’s Supply) will help to bring the birds in close.

The Q&A artisan bird feeder is a must for bird lovers looking for a unique gift or a piece of art for the garden.

And speaking of copper bird feeders, The Q&A teardrop copper and cedar birdfeeders are small but mighty little bird feeders that deserve a spot in every bird lovers garden. For the complete story on the couple from Canada via France who hand build the feeders in their Toronto workshop go here.

Window boxes like the one in the above picture, together with other large containers throughout the garden, provide my wife and I with the perfect place to indulge our love of colour and texture. We look forward to planting them every spring and creating seasonal interest displays during fall and winter.

Matching self-watering planters and a garden hose box are also available from the same company. The self-watering window boxes also come in larger sizes and in both black and white. They come highly recommended to anyone looking to add curb appeal to their homes with a little annual colour.

The Gorilla cart has proven to be a very welcome addition to my garden and has made many of the daily chores and bigger projects much easier to accomplish. You can read my review here.

A few years ago we purchased a large Keter 11 X 7- foot shed. The Keter Artisan shed comes highly recommended. You can read my full review of the shed here.

In addition, the Keter High Storage Shed pictured below sits alongside our main shed and together, provide us with all the convenient storage we need.

The quality of the Keter products led us to purchase more of their products, including the raised planters and a small square deck box that we also bought for our daughter’s balcony in Toronto. I also use the Keter Unity XL Portable BBQ table but I use it mostly as a potting table and only occasionally as a table to compliment our BBQs.

These are just a few examples of my favourite things. I am sure I will be regularly adding more items to the page. Most of them are no doubt available locally if you prefer to shop locally.

I hope these suggestions help you with your purchasing decisions and your garden challenges. Feel free to email me with any questions.
